Jamaica is both a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy based on the Westminster (Great Britain) model. As such, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the Head of State. She is represented in Jamaica by Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen, since 2009.
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) won the national elections in 2015. As head of the Party, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, MP, is now Prime Minister and Head of the Jamaican Government.
Jamaicans are proud of our heritage embodied in our national motto ‘Out of Many, One People’. Take a peek at our history (Link to the Brief history site) and you will find out that we are black; Indian; Chinese; of European descent; and mixed with all that, and more. We are proud of our little island and people that ‘punch far above their weight’ in culture, food and international relations.
