Letters of No Objection

The Letter of No Objection is a statement confirming that the exchange visitor’s Government has no objection to the applicant not returning to the home country to satisfy the two-year foreign residency requirement, and remaining in the U.S. if he or she chooses to do so.

Requirements for a Letter of No Objection

  1. A written request signed by the applicant (original signature) and addressed to the Minister of Finance and the Public Service, 30 National Heroes Circle, Kingston 4, Jamaica. The letter must include the reason(s) for the request and the applicant’s Case Number.
  2. A copy of the Third-Party Barcode Page (separate requirement; frequently overlooked)
  3. The completed J-1 Visa Waiver Applicant Professional Summary Form (MOFPS, revised June 2026) [download link]
  4. A copy of the applicant’s résumé
  5. A notarized copy of the data page of the applicant’s Jamaican passport
  6. A notarized copy of the applicant’s birth certificate
  7. A notarized copy (front and back) of the applicant’s TRN card or Jamaican driver’s licence
  8. A notarized copy of the applicant’s Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status (Form DS-2019)
  9. Notarized copies of the applicant’s U.S. J-1 visa and I-94 record

Cost:

US$90.00 (covers the Letter of No Objection, consular and courier fees), payable by money order to Consulate General of Jamaica. Kindly submit required documents only.

Processing time:

Generally 4 to 6 months after the documents are sent to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.
