Authentication by Apostille

Effective, Monday, 5th July 2021, public documents originating in Jamaica that are intended to be used in certain foreign countries can be authenticated by way of an Apostille. The Apostille process may be completed directly in Jamaica at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (Authority with responsibility for the issuance of all authentications by apostille) or you may submit your documents through the Consulate General of Jamaica, New York.

Requirements:

Should you wish to carry out this process through this Office, please submit the following documents:

  • Completed Apostille Authentications Application Form;
  • Original documents for Apostille; and
  • Copy of ID of applicant (optional).

Cost for Apostille process:

  • Apostille fee per document: US$30;
  • Consular fee US$20 (One-time payment); and
  • The courier fee: US$20 (One-time payment).

In this regard, for a single document to be apostilled the total accumulated cost would be [30+20+20] US$70.

Fees may be paid via Money Order made payable to the “Consulate General of Jamaica”; or via Cash or Debit Card [if done in person]. If via debit card, please note that a 4% surcharge would be added.

Processing time:

Please be advised that the turnaround time for processing Apostilles once the application is compliant (i.e., satisfies all requirements) is about five (5) weeks.
